Description
Published byThe Casa de las Torres is considered to be the first palatial mansion in the city of Úbeda, in the province of Jaen, a prime example of the transition in the 16th century, which saw a blend of mediaeval knightly ideals and exaltation of family lineage with the new language arriving in the Renaissance. It is in the Plateresque style.
Headquarters of the School of Art. A National Historical Monument since 1921. The Casa de las Torres was built on the site of the house of Ruy López Dávalos (1428), who belonged to the high nobility and had been the Grand Constable of Castile. Construction was ordered by Andrés Dávalos de la Cueva, commander of the Order of Santiago and governor of the city.
The façade of the Casa de las Torres is highly decorative and is flanked by two towers that give it the appearance of a fortress and a certain noble prestige.
In the interior there is a Renaissance patio that was one of the first to be built in the city.
