Description
Published byStanding above Jaén like an everlasting defender of the city, the Santa Catalina Castle is of original Arab design extended and modified after being conquered by Ferdinand III. A short distance away is a cross monument which was erected by the order of the aforementioned king after he entered the city in the spring of 1246.
The Santa Catalina Castle or Alcázar Nuevo is a walled, almost triangular, enclosure defended by six towers. Inside, there is a Tourist Information Centre, offering visitors the chance to discover the history of the castle and the city.
You can purchase your tickets: with prior reservation through the web and also at the castle gate at the ticket point (except Wednesday afternoons *)
It has magnificent views and a Parador Hotel attached to it.
