Description
Published byThe Convent of the Concepción Carmelitas Descalzas is located in the city of Úbeda, in the province of Jaén. Construction started in 1623, although the congregation of the Carmelitas Descalzas had already taken its first steps in 1595, when they in resided in severe penury in other parts of the city until they found their current location.
The building stands around a cloister and has a chapel with a single nave that is evidence of the Order's austerity. Unfortunately this little church was desecrated and looted in 1936.
Since the 1960s this congregation has also been busy in its bakery making homemade sweets that are always available in the "Torno de Monjas" (where you can buy the sweets without coming face-to-face with the nuns).
During her stay in the city, Santa Teresa de Jesús lived in this convent.
