Description

Published by
The Convent of Las Bernardas was established in the 16th century by the auxiliary bishop of Toledo, Melchor Soria y Vera, who had been born in Jaén. Its real name is "Convent of La Concepción Franciscana", but it is popularly known as "Las Bernardas". Few people know that it takes this name from the protection exercised over it by Bernardo de Sandoval y Rojas.
Magnificent façades, a splendid cloister and several paintings by Angelo Nardi join other treasures to create an artistic repertoire unsurpassed by any other monastic building in the city.
Nowadays, the Bernardas Convent is occupied by a cloistered community of Discalced Franciscan nuns.
