In the heart of the city of Córdoba and founded by the Carmelitas Descalzas, right opposite the Puerta del Colodro, you will find the San José Convent Church, also known as San Cayetano.
The most prominent feature is the façade, dating from 1638, and there are two bell towers. It bis a closed Latin-cross church with a dome and a vault and the walls are decorated with magnificent frescoes. On the upper apex of the altarpiece there is an image of San José, the patron of the church, accompanied by San Elías and San Juan de la Cruz. The transept is decorated with two altarpieces, one dedicated to the Niño Jesús de Praga and the other to Santa Teresa de Jesús, a carving by Gómez de Sandoval. The is the reason for its importance as part of the Route of Santa Teresa de Jesús.
There should be special mention for the old garden in the rear, as part of this was a public cemetery at the beginning of the 19th century.
