This typical Madrid mansion, built in 1730, is particularly notable for its Baroque main entrance, carved in granite and designed by Pedro de Ribera, and for housing one of the finest examples of eclectic interior design in Madrid. It currently houses one of the headquarters of the Madrid Chamber of Commerce.
When the Dukes of Santoña acquired the palace in 1874, they adapted it to the tastes of the time, a style that has been preserved to this day. A façade was added to Calle de las Huertas, similar to the one Ribera created on Calle del Príncipe, and a spectacular marble staircase, designed by Carlo Nicoli, was constructed. The sumptuous salons on the main floor are distinguished by their murals, created by contemporary artists such as Sans Cabot, Pla, Francés, and Domínguez, among others, who, through the Neo-Baroque style, combined elements of the Italian Renaissance, French Rococo, and Oriental styles. Later, the palace became the residence of José de Canalejas. In 1933, it was acquired by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which commissioned a complete restoration, carried out by Chueca Goitia. In 1953, the facades were restored, and later, the palace was further enlarged and renovated. The Chamber of Commerce rents out the palace's facilities for various types of events.
