Description
Published byNuestra Señora de la O Promenade is found in Triana neighbourhood, one of the most essential areas of Seville. It is also located next to the Castle of San Jorge, the former Castle of the Inquisition, offering magnificent views of the river and the city.
This name was given to the promenade in 1963 in honour of the image of the Virgin of O, a devotion deeply rooted in the Triana neighbourhood and worshipped in the Parish Church of the same name, located on Calle Castilla, parallel to the Parish Church. The promenade is the result of a redesign of this riverside area, which had already been adapted for pedestrian use prior to 1993, when the project that gave it its final form was executed. The promenade's layout was designed by the technical department of the City Council's Municipal Management area. Therefore, this culminated in the completion of the works started to re-arrange both river banks during the Universal Exhibition of Seville 1992 – Expo '92. In particular, this is where the Cartuja complex is located, which is accessed from the promenade and its paths.
The promenade has several areas, which are carefully designed to blend plants and paved surfaces. Therefore, in the area surrounding Plaza de Castilla, next to the Puente del Cristo de la Expiración, a set of steps leads down to the promenade level with areas paved with prefabricated materials in keeping with the entire area built for the Exposition, creating an area with kiosks and bars are located. Worth mentioning is the presence of Indian laurel (Ficus microcarpa) and poplar trees (Populus alba), with a clear predominance of trees over shrub and ground cover plants. The promenade surface combines albero pavements and spaces paved with the typical Sevillian granite cobblestones, although smaller than the traditional ones.
With a large space of approximately 450 m² Nuestra Señora de la O Promenade is the perfect spot for all sorts of events, from product and service presentations, banquets to cocktails, and even theatre and school group events.
