Description
Published byIn Aguilar de la Frontera despite the fact that many historians have placed it in the Roman period, the Vado Castro Bridge has been reliably identified as dating from the 16th century. At the time, it was part of a double construction to cross the river Cabra and the millrace of the Carrera Cordoba Mill.
This is a bridge with a single vaulted arch, cutwater and counter-cutwater, built in sandstone, with rounded edges, lime mortar concrete and compacted earth. Somewhat removed from the usual course of the river, its purpose was to save the water from the millrace of the flour mill, although it is larger than usual constructions used for this purpose.
Because of the route of the Cordoba- Malaga main road in the 19th century, as well as other circumstances, in 1847 a new bridge was already being built at the expense of the residents, which meant it was gradually abandoned.
