The Macarena Arch, located in Seville, is one of the city's most emblematic historical monuments and a symbol of the neighbourhood that bears its name. The arch forms part of the Almohad city walls and is valued as a historical, cultural and spiritual monument. Built in the 12th century as part of Seville's defensive system, the arch was one of the main gateways to the walled city. Although it has preserved original elements from the Almohad period, the arch has undergone alterations over the centuries. One of its most defining features today is its yellow ochre colour, characteristic of Sevillian architecture. The arch is located beside the Basilica of La Macarena, home of the venerated Virgen de la Esperanza Macarena. It plays an important role during Holy Week when the procession passes under it.
