Description

Batida Cave is an ancient quarry located north of Carmona, in the province of Seville. This rocky outcrop of calcarenites has been exploited since Roman times for the extraction of building materials. The area is home to several caves carved into the rock, the most notable of which gives the place its name. The surroundings feature typical vegetation of herbaceous crops and patches of shrubs, with species such as fan palms and pitas. The wildlife includes notable specimens of eagle owls and bat colonies.
Batida Cave is accessible via the green route that starts at the Puerta de Córdoba gateway in Carmona and passes by various heritage sites such the gateway itself, the remains of the Via Augusta, the Roman bridge and the Mudejar chapel of San Mateo. The route is approximately 5 km long and offers panoramic views of the town and its natural surroundings.
