This palatial building dates from the 19th century and is located on the central Arenal Street. Built between 1846 and 1847 by the architect Aníbal Álvarez Bouquel for the banker Manuel Gaviria y Douza, Marquis of Gaviria and Count of Buena Esperanza, it is considered one of the most luxurious palaces of its time, with an aesthetic influenced by Italian Renaissance palaces. Since March 2026, it has housed the permanent exhibition "Dalí Infinito," dedicated to the sculptural production of the eccentric genius from Figueres. Open daily.
Inaugurated in 1851 with a ball presided over by Queen Isabella II, the palace has thirteen rooms. The interior decoration is notable for the frescoes in the salons, especially the ceiling of the ballroom, painted by Joaquín Espalter y Rull. From 1991 to 2011, it housed the Palacio de Gaviria nightclub, and after a few years of disuse, it reopened in 2017 as an exhibition space for Arthemisia, the Italian international company dedicated to the production and organization of large and prominent exhibitions (Escher, Alphonse Mucha, Duchamp, Dalí, and Magritte). PERMANENT EXHIBITION: DALI INFINITE After extensive restoration and a long period of closure, the palace reopened its doors on March 25, 2026, to host the permanent exhibition "Dalí Infinito," dedicated to the sculptural production of Salvador Dalí created from 1973 onwards, showcasing his lesser-known side with a collection of 14 sculptures. These pieces, from the Clot collection, were conceived during one of Dalí's most mature and experimental periods, and show the evolution of his artistic language towards forms that combine technical precision with the dreamlike freedom characteristic of his creative universe. Each sculpture is an exercise in virtuosity that underscores the versatility of an artist who never stopped exploring new means of expression.
