For over a century, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra (TSO) has been committed to musical excellence and its ability to create connections. With a long history of concerts, recordings, tours, and community partnerships, it is dedicated to engaging and enriching local and national communities through vibrant musical experiences. Its principal conductor, Gustavo Gimeno, brings vision and a sense of adventure to the programming of the 93-member orchestra that serves Toronto, one of the world's most diverse cities. As a group of artists and teachers who champion the belief that music has the power to inspire people from all walks of life, the TSO engages audiences young and old through community access initiatives. It hosts open days and free concerts at its former home, Roy Thomson Hall. Its Relaxed Performances are designed to welcome audience members with autism, sensory and communication disorders, ADHD, and dementia. Art of Healing, in collaboration with the Centre for Addiction and Mental Illness, helps patients from Indigenous, Inuit, and Métis ancestral communities through storytelling and musical composition. TSOUND Connections uses music and technology to connect with elderly people in care facilities, reducing their social isolation and promoting their well-being. Their Morning with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra program offers open rehearsals for high school music students from across the Greater Toronto Area. In partnership with the Toronto Public Library, Symphony Storytime features orchestra members performing live alongside readings of children's books, expanding access to literacy and music education for families and children. The Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra is a free training program that has been dedicated to developing the next generation of Canadian artists for over 50 years.
