The Casa del Cine de Almería (Almeria House of Cinema) takes a look back through the cinematographic past of the Province of Almeria and preserves historical memory.
Once owned by the Balmes family, it was bought by the local council to be converted into the Film Museum, given that the province had a great connection with the world of film during the 60s and 70s. It continues to enjoy this connection today. Cortijo Romero also provided accommodation for actors and actresses during filming for their movies. Some of the stars to have stayed here include Clint Eastwood and Brigitte Bardot, who filmed sequences in the Tabernas Desert and Cabo de Gata.
However, the individual who brought most fame to the house was John Lennon as, in 1966, he took part in filming for the movie “How I Won the War” and during his stay he was inspired to write the renowned song, Strawberry Fields Forever.
With the House of Cinema, Almeria has recovered a symbolic place and gained a new cultural space.
