Located in the city of Almería, the Almería Art Museum is a municipal institution spread over two locations: the former home of Doña Pakyta (Doña Pakyta Art Museum ) and the modern building next to the city hall that housed the capital's Contemporary Art Centre and is now the Almería Art Museum – Espacio 2. The works on display are sourced from municipal collections, mostly from the Ibáñez-Cosentino Art Foundation collection, the institution responsible for the overall artistic direction of both venues.
A logical continuation of the museographic discourse started at the Doña Pakyta Art Museum, at Espacio 2, visitors can enjoy a broad overview of contemporary Almerian art, from the 1980s to the present day, through a selection of artists whose names already form part of our art history.
The permanent collection begins with the so-called artistic movement of the 1980s, which brought together artists from various trends, most of whom were trained in modern Fine Arts schools. They rebelled against the prevailing academicism and the cultural supremacy of the Indaliano movement of the provincial art scene. Artists such as Ginés Cervantes, Pepe Bernal, Rafael Gadea, Toña Gómez, and Antonio Egea belong to this group from the 80s. The visit continues with the leading names in figuration and the new realisms developed in Almería since the 1990s, artistic proposals that remain highly relevant today, represented by works from Abraham Lacalle, Anne Kampschulte, Antonio Egea, César Martínez, Andrés García Ibáñez, Luis Ramos, Melchor Peropadre, Paco de la Torre and Roberto Manzano. The visit concludes with an overview of contemporary photography from Almería, featuring notable names such as Cecilio Paniagua, Jorge Rueda, Carlos Pérez Siquier, José María Artero, Manuel Falces, Carlos de Paz and Marina del Mar. Furthermore, it organises temporary exhibitions of contemporary artists, although sometimes it also includes works by great figures from the history of art.
The Ibáñez-Cosentino Art Foundation offers the possibility of renting its spaces for events such as receptions, conferences, award ceremonies, photoshoots and radio and TV productions.
