Description
Published byAznalmara Castle, also known as Tavizna Castle, is a medieval fortress located in the village of Benaocaz, in the heart of the Sierra de Cádiz. Nestled in a privileged natural setting, the monument bears testament to the region's past and an attractive destination for history and nature lovers. Built during the Islamic period, the castle played an important role in the defence of the territory during the days of al-Andalus. Although it is currently in a state of ruin, its architectural remains, such as the walls and towers, reveal its strategic importance and military design. Situated on a rocky hill, the castle offers exceptional panoramic views of the surrounding area, including the Sierra de Grazalema Nature Park, making it an ideal place to enjoy the scenery. Aznalmara Castle is part of the historical legacy of the Sierra de Cádiz, an example of the defensive constructions that characterised the region during centuries of conflict and cultural coexistence.
