Description
Published byThe Harinera del Guadaíra is an old flour factory established in 1934 and strategically located on a 7,000 m2 triangular plot of land next to one of the main entrances to the "Riberas del Guadaíra" Natural Monument.
The plot of land has a spacious, triangular-shaped landscaped area and at its base stands the beautifully constructed Flour Factory, although the architectural style corresponds to the original type for this kind of industrial building: a 3-storey factory, extended, narrow rectangular floor plan, developed in height.
After refurbishment and enhancement it was opened in March 2015 and is now a prominent tourist centre in the town since it houses the Bakery Industry Visitor Centre and the Municipal Tourist Offices.
In this centre, bread is portrayed as a major hallmark, the municipality's very raison d'être and the essence of traditional life in Alcalá. The Visitor Centre occupies the original three-storeys that use to be the Flour Factory. The venue has been refurbished preserving all the original structure and machinery but adapting it to regulations for accessibility. It consists of the ground floor, first floor and second floor. Through explanations regarding the machinery in this building, you will learn about the process for producing a truly essential ingredient: flour.
