Description
Published byThe agricultural cooperative San Amador is located in the municipality of Martos, in the southern countryside of Jaén. Martos, for decades, has been the town with the largest expanse of olive trees in the world, and archaeological remains from the Iberian-Roman period have been found, attesting to the importance of olive oil and its influence on culture since ancient times.
The olive groves that supply the San Amador mill produce Picual or Marteña olives. The fruit ripens from the second week of November to the third week of December. This variety is the most important in the world and comprises 20% of the world's olive groves.
A visit to the mill invites you to explore its sea of olive trees through a unique experience that shares the passion of the farmers who produce one of the olive oils with the most national and international renown. During the visit, the process of making olive oil is explained, from harvesting the fruit to cleaning, blending, extraction, storage and packaging. The visit ends with a tasting of their oils.
