Alquife Mines are the largest open-pit iron mine in Europe. They are located in the province of Granada, Andalusia, and include the municipalities of Alquife, Aldeire, Jérez del Marquesado and Lanteira. These mines have a rich history dating back to the Bronze Age and have been operated since Roman times. The mines are currently operational and produce high-quality iron, supplying it primarily to the European steel industry. In addition, the mining complex has been declared a Site of Cultural Interest due to its historical, geological and scenic value.
