Of all the convents and monasteries in Seville, the Monastery of Santa Paula, of the Hieronymite nuns, is one of most representative and most accessible. It has an exceptional Permanent Art Exhibition which can be visited and from where a part of the cloisters can be seen.
Founded by Doña Ana de Santillán in 1473, the church was built between 1483 and 1489. Renowned artists like Pedro Millan, Nicoloso Pissano, Andrés de Ocampos, Felipe de Rivas and Martíñez Montañés all worked here. The convent now has a museum where works of art are exhibited which were formerly kept within the cloisters.
The community currently comprises nuns from four continents, and they are renowned for the sweets and jams that are made in the convent Each Santa Paula product is made from a special recipe which has been perfected over time.
