Description
Published byThis is the weir in the municipality of Urdán, Zaragoza. This weir provides irrigation via the Urdán irrigation canal on the left bank of the Ebro River between this point and Osera, about 30 kilometers southeast of Zaragoza, the Aragonese capital, near San Juan de Mozarrifar.
The Urdán irrigation canal, or the Urdana as it is popularly known, is located next to the Aula Dei Charterhouse and on the banks of the Gállego River and is one of those that supplies irrigation to the area known as the lower Gállego.
It originates between the municipalities of Villanueva de Gállego and Zaragoza, then flows along the left bank of the river until it enters the orchards along the banks of the Ebro, beyond Villafranca de Ebro. The irrigation ditches of the lower Gállego have an ancient origin, although they reached their greatest extent from the medieval period onwards.
