On the right bank of the Manzanares River lies this 38,000-square-meter natural space, near the Casa de Campo park. Located within the Madrid Río area, just a few meters from the Puente del Rey (King's Bridge), its origins date back to the 16th century when it was the vegetable garden that supplied produce to the palace of the Vargas family, one of the most influential in the city. They had their country house built in this area, which later became part of the royal estate.
Today, this area features paths lined with fruit trees (hazelnut, almond, olive, etc.). At the top of the garden, there is a viewpoint offering panoramic views not only of the Madrid Río park but also of the Royal Palace, the Almudena Cathedral, and, to the left, the towers of the Plaza de España.
