Description
Published byThis church is one of the most representative of Estepa's Baroque, but it is also the sentimental reference point for an entire neighborhood to which it gives its name and its identifying features. The church has a single nave with five side chapels. The chapel of Our Lady of Remedies is recognized as one of the architectural and decorative gems of the 18th century. The design of the chapel's flooring creates an immersive, deep, optical effect for the visitor, like a trompe l'oeil. It is worth noting that it is in an excellent state of preservation. The church was expanded in the 18th century, on the site of the former Hermitage of the Vera Cruz from the Santiago era. The façade is simple, with a sepia stone doorway formed by two Tuscan pilasters, which bears a frieze bearing the coat of arms of the Marquises of Estepa, bearing the following inscription: "This work was completed during the reign of the Marquis of Estepa, His Excellency Juan Bautista Centurión, in 1743."
