Located in the Pasadizo de San Ginés, just a few meters from the Puerta del Sol, this chocolate shop is considered the most famous in the city. Since 1894, it has offered locals and tourists the traditional chocolate with churros, as well as soft drinks, coffee, and other pastries. You can enjoy its sweets both inside the shop and on the outdoor terrace that runs along the pedestrian street. They also offer home delivery. Decorated with traditional white marble tables and a tiled counter, Chocolatería San Ginés has been mentioned in numerous literary works, such as Benito Pérez Galdós's National Episodes and Valle-Inclán's Bohemian Lights. Its fame began from the very start, as it was a popular spot for theatergoers to enjoy hot chocolate and churros after the show, and today it boasts the honors of being recognized by the Readers' Circle and the Madrid City Council as a Historic Tourist Center. San Ginés also has other branches at 81 López de Hoyos Street (in the Prosperidad Market), 24 Doctor Fleming Street (next to the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium), and in Marbella (Málaga). In 2010, a San Ginés Chocolatería opened in Tokyo, Japan, in the famous and bustling Shibuya district. They also have locations in Shanghai, China, and in 2013, two branches opened in Bogotá, Colombia. In 2019, they began expanding into Mexico, with locations in the Condesa and Parque España neighborhoods of Mexico City; in Argentina at the Mercado de los Carruajes in Buenos Aires; and in the United States (Miami Beach).
