Description

Dedicated to the exhibition of visual arts created by various artists from the last third of the 19th century until after the end of World War II, this gallery, opened in 2008, is located in a building constructed between 1881 and 1884 by the architect Agustín Ortiz de Villajos for the Duchess of Medina de las Torres. Originally, the building had four floors and a semi-basement, but in 1910 two turrets were added to the corner sections. After a series of renovations and restructuring works, the building now has an exhibition area of approximately 1,000 m², divided into three galleries. The MAPFRE Foundation also had another exhibition space in Madrid called the Sala Bárbara de Braganza, located very close to the Sala Recoletos, dedicated to the great masters of photography, which is now permanently closed.
