Located next to Madrid's Puerta de Atocha - Almudena Grandes train station and very close to the Paseo del Arte (Art Walk), the Avant-Garde Arts Center and International Artist Residency 'La Neomudéjar' is a museum dedicated to the most innovative creations, inaugurated in 2013. Video art festivals, exhibitions, talks, and art installations are programmed at this museum, which features artist residencies where artists leave their mark on the building itself. La Neomudéjar is housed in former premises of Adif, the state-owned railway company. The building belonged to the old Atocha station, and the railway line ended right at the door, where materials were delivered directly from freight cars. The building's Neo-Mudéjar style gives the space an identity linked to Madrid's art scene, as this architectural movement enjoyed great success in Madrid. Until the summer of 2024, La Neomudéjar's permanent collection was housed in Fuencarral, at the City of Art - Zapadores Museum, located in a former army barracks that championed emerging artists. Following its closure in September 2024, as a result of the Madrid Nuevo Norte urban development project, the works have been moved to another location.
