Founded in 1931 on Gran Vía, it was the first cocktail bar in Spain. Over the years, it has preserved the best of its history, full of glamour and charm, without missing the boat on modernity, which is now evident in a stimulating light show that changes according to the time of day and a DJ booth where the DJ spins his music. Museo Chicote, the undisputed temple of Madrid cocktails, has remained unchanged since its beginnings. The same sofas once used by Ava Gardner and Grace Kelly are still there, as are the chrome metal chairs from the 1950s where Bette Davis and Frank Sinatra surely sat. The list of illustrious figures from film, theater, music, and literature who have walked through its doors is almost endless. And today it continues in this way, without Chicote, but just as it was in its beginnings, with that edgy yet glamorous touch, offering impressive cocktails and an exquisite, relaxed, modern, and charming atmosphere, frequented by a diverse clientele who maintain a taste for good music and their mixed drinks. For over a decade, the venue has been managed by the Mercado de la Reina group, made up of a group of entrepreneurs who also manage other popular establishments in the area: Mercado de la Reina, 12 and Mercado de la Reina, 10, both on Gran Vía, and Diurno and Gin Club in the Chueca neighborhood. Under their management, Museo Chicote's cuisine has been modernized, offering a new, simple tapas menu. In addition, every weekend they offer a full brunch to enjoy from 1:00 PM to 2:45 PM, accompanied by music from a DJ. Museo Chicote has also been the setting for numerous films and television series, such as Pedro Almodóvar's Broken Embraces, Paco León's Arde Madrid, and the series Velvet. In February 2022, to commemorate its 90th anniversary and to safeguard its memory, the City Council, through the Madrid Memory Plan, recognized Museo Chicote as one of the city's most iconic establishments with a commemorative plaque placed on its façade. This plaque is part of a collection of more than 400 with which the City Council aims to keep the city's memory alive.
