The Natural Sciences Museum of the University of Zaragoza showcases the evolution of history and life on Earth through its collections.
It has distinct spaces distributed across two locations: the Paraninfo Building and the Faculty of Sciences, and its objective is to research, conserve, expand, and disseminate the heritage related to the Natural Sciences.
The Paraninfo Building, located in the former Faculty of Medicine and Sciences building, displays two important collections: the Paleontology Collection of the University of Zaragoza, with more than one hundred thousand fossils of plants and vertebrate and invertebrate animals, and the Longinos Navás Collection, with more than 400 taxidermied animals, skeletons, mollusk shells, fossils, numerous herbaria, and some 7,300 insects, among other pieces.
The building is one of the most outstanding in Spain of its time and contributed to the renewal of Aragonese architecture between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Built in the 20th century by the architect Ricardo Magdalena, it is a designated National Historic-Artistic Monument and now a Site of Cultural Interest. The Faculty of Sciences houses the fossil storage and preparation laboratory.
