The Roman Theatre of Zaragoza was built in the 1st century AD in ancient Caesaraugusta. Undoubtedly, the theatre was a monumental building and the most popular in the city.
Its construction began during the reign of Tiberius and continued until the reign of Claudius.
The theatre remained standing until the 3rd century AD. Some of its materials were used in the raising of the city wall and in the foundations of Islamic, Christian, and Jewish houses.
The Caesaraugusta theatre was built on a flat site, following the model of the Theatre of Marcellus in Rome.
During its more than 200 years of operation, it was a place for meetings, entertainment, and social life, playing an important role in transmitting the cultural, political, and religious values of the Roman Empire.
It was rediscovered in 1972 and the Museum was inaugurated in 2003, although archaeological and research work continues.
