Faunia is a large themed and natural space located in Vicálvaro that houses more than 1200 animals of 152 different species, which live in 4 ecosystems and 15 themed areas adapted to each of them, with their own habitat, temperature, light and humidity conditions. All of this is spread across 16 hectares with a topography enhanced by lakes and ponds. At Faunia, four of the world's most extraordinary ecosystems are represented: • The Jungle: Where you can meet manatees, macaws, toucans, and several species of tamarins, among other animals, and feel the heat and rain of a tropical storm. • The Polar Ecosystem: Visitors can enjoy watching over 100 penguins of six different species race underwater in the largest Polar Ecosystem in Europe. • The African Forest: Like the island of Madagascar, a miracle of natural evolution that is home to 5% of the world's endemic species, you can see its three species of lemurs and numerous brightly colored birds. • The Forest Temperate: An amazing area that houses a wide variety of animals from the world's temperate regions, such as the muntjac, the mazama, and the demoiselle crane. In addition, in Faunia's themed areas, you can explore a nocturnal habitat illuminated only by the light of the full moon, where you can see fascinating animals like the ocelot, the two-toed sloth, and the aardvark, as well as a karst cave in Mysteries Underground, to discover animals that live in the depths, such as the naked mole-rat and the frilled lizard. You can also wander through an Australian savanna to meet the Bennett's wallaby, visit a mangrove forest with impressive Nile crocodiles, or discover a host of venomous animals such as snakes, spiders, and jellyfish, among others. From the moment you begin your visit, nature, learning, and fun are guaranteed for the whole family, thanks also to several Educational activities about marine mammals and birds of prey, informative talks about some of the most representative species, and the opportunity to get up close to sea lions, manatees, penguins, pelicans, and crocodiles in their interactions with other animals make the visit a truly authentic nature experience. Faunia carries out important work in the field of raising awareness and conserving endangered species. In collaboration with the Parques Reunidos Foundation and within the framework of EAZA (European Association of Zoos and Aquaria), it organizes educational activities aimed at raising awareness, promoting environmental stewardship, and fostering respect for the animal kingdom.
