Located in one of Madrid's most distinctive urban spaces, a short walk from the former Piarist Schools (now the UNED headquarters), the Corrala de Tribulete, and the Casino de la Reina Park, the San Fernando Market has been one of the five markets in Madrid's city center district since 1944.
The market's surroundings have been the subject of an ambitious urban renewal program since 1998. The building's façade is its most original feature and gives this market a unique character among all those in Madrid, resulting in the surprise of visitors who discover that a municipal market lies behind the magnificent entrance.
In addition to the traditional selection of fresh food characteristic of municipal markets, there is a wide variety of shops ranging from fashion boutiques to bookstores, as well as offering diverse cultural and leisure activities.
